XII International trade fair “Energy efficiency. Renewable energy” was held on November 6 at the International Exhibition Centre in Kyiv. The Bioenergy Association also participated in the exhibition as an organizer of the All-Ukrainian Forum “Bioenergy Day”.
Organizers of the event: Bioenergy Association of Ukraine, Global 100RE Ukraine.
During the meeting participants were discussing such important topics as experience of bioenergy development in Ukraine and legislation and bioenergy technologies.
This event became a communication platform for the industry's most qualified experts. Very important that participation was free for all visitors of Exhibition.
“We fully understand the importance of creating such open and accessible expert’s environment with experience exchange opportunities. We permanently focus our efforts on consolidation of scientists, businessmen and civil society members around strategic development issues,” – commented the Chairman of the Board of Bioenergy Association of Ukraine Georgii Geletukha.
The above bioenergy day was attended by: Georgii Geletukha - Chairman of the Board of Bioenergy Association of Ukraine; Yurii Shafarenko - Head of Renewable Energy Sources Department of the State Agency on Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving of Ukraine; Ivan Gaidutskyi - Executive Director of Global 100RE Ukraine and others.
Participants of the event have discussed a current state and possibilities of bioenergy development in Ukraine; opportunities for harvesting by-products of grain corn for energy production in Ukraine; growing of energy willow for country's energy independence; adaptation challenges and opportunities for bioenergy projects within the framework of implementation a new electricity market; current approaches of energy and heat production from biofuel; opportunities of biogas preparation and utilization by gas-cogeneration power plant equipment; and ways of transformation waste into energy.
Some interesting thoughts from our experts:
Yurii Shafarenko - Head of Renewable Energy Sources Department of the State Agency on Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving of Ukraine:
“The draft law on the regulation of solid biofuel trade was developed last year. However, the issue of regulating the solid biofuel market remains open. Today it is chaotic. We are working on developing an electronic bidding system that will connect all biomass producers and buyers. We have already analysed the experience of Lithuania, where a same platform had been implemented. Today 95% of country`s market players use this service. As a result, the biofuel`s price has fallen by 25%".
Georgii Geletukha - Chairman of the Board of Bioenergy Association of Ukraine:
«We need to learn how to use agricultural waste in fuel producing process. According to the estimates of the Bioenergy Association, 30-40% of these residues can be taken from the fields. Growth of bioenergy market share due to forest biomass is practically impossible. Ukraine is an agricultural country, that’s why we should maximize our own resources».
Ivan Gaidutskyi - Executive Director of Global 100RE Ukraine:
«We need to set up more ambitious goals than an 11 percent market share of renewable energy in 2020 that is currently set by National Action Plan of Renewable Energy up to 2020. Business should feel the real advantage of being environmentally friendly. The truth is that clean energy is more economically viable than traditional energy».
Also, plans and objectives of the Global 100% RE Ukraine were discussed. A complete transition of Ukraine to renewable energy was declared by this public association as a main goal. Moreover, participants paid attention to the AgroBioHeat project, and focused on the opportunities of the SAF Ukraine platform for bioenergy projects.
